What’s SC Calm?
It all began with a quiet question many of us carry: What would happen if we gave ourselves permission to slow down?
In response to growing stress, disconnection, and burnout, the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor created SC Calm to bring everyday wellness back to the places people already live, work, and gather.
SC Calm brings the benefits of nature-based wellness into the rhythms of everyday life—meeting people where they are, with simple experiences that invite calm, reflection, and connection.
We draw inspiration from the principles of forest therapy and forest bathing, while adapting them for more accessible, everyday settings. But our work doesn't stop there. Whether it’s a quiet moment under a backyard tree, a pause in neighborhood greenspaces and blueways, or a deep wilderness experience, SC Calm offers tools that support well-being across the full spectrum of South Carolina’s natural landscapes.
Grounded in community partnerships and nature-based practice, SC Calm is redefining what it means to feel well—through stillness, connection, and care in South Carolina communities. And just as nature supports us, we aim to nurture care and stewardship for the natural world in return.
OUR MISSION
To grow a culture of wellness through nature-based experiences—empowering people to care for their own well-being and for the natural world that sustains us.
OUR VISION & OUR GOALS
Our Vision
A South Carolina where calm is part of daily life—where nature is not only a source of healing, but something we care for as part of how we live.
Our Goals
The SC Calm initiative uses South Carolina’s rich natural landscapes to:
Expand access to nature-based wellness as a pathway to relief from stress, anxiety, and disconnection
Build tools and resources that help people care for themselves—and for nature
Encourage moments of calm in green spaces, blueways, and the places people already gather
Foster community engagement through holistic, resilience-building practices
Integrate nature-based wellness into public health, education, and workforce systems
THE HEART BEHIND SC CALM
SC Calm is led by Yuka Greer, Director of Outdoor Wellness Programs at the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.
Before stepping into this role, Yuka worked behind the scenes as the organization’s finance and operations director—bringing visions to life with care and precision.
Now a certified Forest Therapy Guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), she brings together years of nonprofit experience and a deep belief in nature’s healing power. With thoughtfulness, curiosity, and a steady vision, Yuka is helping shape SC Calm into a movement rooted in care, connection, and community.
ABOUT SCNHC
The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor (SCNHC) is one of just 62 National Heritage Areas designated by the National Park Service. Stretching from the Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic coast, the Corridor works to preserve, protect, and celebrate South Carolina’s natural, cultural, and historical treasures.
SC Calm is proud to be a program of this visionary organization. Known for deep, place-based partnerships, the Corridor has a legacy of creating impactful, community-driven initiatives—such as:
· SC7 (South Carolina Seven) – A conservation and awareness expedition that received the Ralph Regula Conservation and Stewardship Champion Award from the U.S. Department of the Interior for its work in building community resiliency.
· SC Resilience Conference – An annual gathering that brings together voices from the dynamic sectors of health and wellness, conservation, and community and economic sustainability to promote holistic solutions.
· SC Trail Towns Program – A statewide initiative supporting communities in becoming more trail-friendly—encouraging outdoor recreation, economic growth, and healthy living.
This legacy of collaboration and on-the-ground trust-building continues to shape everything we do at SC Calm—from how we design our wellness tools to how we walk alongside communities.
